History of the Pudelpointer

Welcome to High Life Pudelpointers

High Life Pudelpointers is a family-run kennel in Redmond, Oregon, raising Pudelpointers that develop into exceptional gun dogs with strong, instinctive pointing and retrieving ability. Our breeding focuses on stamina and on temperaments that suit the way we hunt and train. We enjoy hunting behind smart, hardworking, stylish dogs with the endurance and prey drive to keep going through a full day. These dogs put in serious effort in the field, yet they also live in our home as family members — they thrive on close human contact and make excellent companions and pets.

Among gun dog breeds, the Pudelpointer is widely regarded as the most versatile. In addition to strong upland game performance, their instinctive love of water and retrieving makes them stand out as waterfowl dogs. Pudelpointers are likewise skilled at finding and retrieving shed antlers. We are members of NAPPA (North American Pudelpointer Alliance) and follow its demanding breeding standards — standards that have helped establish the Pudelpointer as the top testing breed in NAVHDA.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Pudelpointer

Which two breeds were crossed to develop the Pudelpointer?
The name tells the story: the Pudelpointer descends from the English Pointer and the Standard Poodle — specifically the German Poodle, not the French type. Breeders set out to combine the Pointer's pointing instinct with the Poodle's intelligence, water affinity, and retrieving skill.
What makes the Pudelpointer the most versatile gun dog breed?
Pudelpointers combine powerful natural pointing and retrieving instincts with an instinctive love of water. They excel on upland game, work as waterfowl dogs, and can even locate and retrieve shed antlers — a truly all-around hunting companion.
How does NAPPA influence Pudelpointer breeding?
High Life Pudelpointers belongs to NAPPA (North American Pudelpointer Alliance) and abides by the organization's strict breeding requirements. Following these standards has helped make the Pudelpointer the top testing breed in NAVHDA.
Do Pudelpointers make good family pets too, not just hunting dogs?
Yes. Pudelpointers are intelligent, hardworking, and stylish in the field, yet they also share the home as family members. Since they crave personal contact, they become great companions and pets as well as capable gun dogs.
What hunting temperament can I expect from a Pudelpointer?
Pudelpointers are bred for the stamina and prey drive needed to hunt all day, with temperaments that suit active hunting and training. They are known for being hardworking, intelligent, and stylish in the field.
