Selected Males

As members of the North American Pudelpointer Breeders Alliance (NAPPA), we follow their rules: a male dog must meet the following requirements:

  1. Prize in a NAVHDA Utility test
  2. Certified to be free of hip dysplasia
  3. Free of any temperament disorders
  4. Free of any genetic defects

Right now we have two young males that satisfy three of the four requirements. They are scheduled for NAVHDA testing
this spring and summer.

We collaborate closely with Bob Farris of Cedarwoods Kennels in Boise, Idaho, when choosing the
 males we use for breeding.

Bob and I have hunted together and he\\\'s very familiar with our females. He knows how they hunt, their type of coat, their physical sizes and their personalities. When we have decided on the male we would like to use we will enter both the male and female in NAPPA\\\'s Premier version of Breedmate Software called Breedmate Explorer to view the relationship and inbreeding coefficients to 25 generations.
Breedmate has over1100 Pudelpointers entered into its software and can trace some dog\\\'s heritage back
to the 1920s.

Here\\\'s the list of the males we have used with great success in the past and will continue to use these
Males and others as we strive to strengthen our breeding Program.

Common Questions About Our Selected Males

What does a male Pudelpointer need to qualify for your breeding program?

We are members of the North American Pudelpointer Breeders Alliance (NAPPA). Under their rules, a male dog must earn a Prize in a NAVHDA Utility test, be certified free of hip dysplasia, be free of temperament disorders, and be free of genetic defects.

Do all your current males satisfy every NAPPA requirement?

Currently we have two young males that meet three of the four requirements. They will undergo NAVHDA testing this spring and summer.

How do you decide which male to breed with your females?

We work closely with Bob Farris of Cedarwoods Kennels in Boise, Idaho, to select the males we use for breeding. Bob and I have hunted together, and he knows our females well — how they hunt, their coat type, their physical size, and their personalities.

How do you check a potential pairing for inbreeding and relationship?

After choosing a male, we enter both the male and female into NAPPA's Premier version of Breedmate Software, called Breedmate Explorer, to review relationship and inbreeding coefficients across 25 generations. Breedmate contains over 1100 Pudelpointers and can trace some dogs' heritage back to the 1920s.

Which males have you used successfully before?

Our list includes Cedarwoods Prince from Zoey (Winston), Cedarwoods First Offence (Tukr), Cedarwoods Quick Release (Jessie), Cedarwoods EZ Top (Murphy), and Hery Ze Strazistskych Lesu (Heri). We will keep using these males and others as we work to strengthen our breeding program.
